Today's #FierceFeministFriday is Chantal Gibson! @chantalgibsonartist is an artist-educator working in the overlap between literary and visual art. Her work challenges cultural hegemony, unpacking imperialist ideologies quietly embedded in everyday things—from school books to souvenir spoons. In 2018 she exhibited at the @romtoronto and the @mbamtl . Currently, she has shows in #Victoria and Canning, NS. Both are based on her first book of poetry How She Read, a #CBC favorite for spring, which bends and twists English grammar while confronting representations of Black womanhood in the Canadian cultural imagination. Named one of CBC’s 6 Black writers to watch in 2019, Gibson is an award-winning teacher in the School of Interactive Arts & Technology at Simon Fraser University.
